The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) will finish constructing a new compressor station in the Gunashli field to reduce low pressure gas emissions by 90 percent, SOCAR Vice President on Ecology Issues Mukhtar Babayev said.
SOCAR will produce low pressure associated gas in the shallow section of Gunashli. The gas will be delivered to the Azerbaijani gas-processing plant or national gas transport system after pressure increases.
Earlier, the low pressure associated gas was emitted in to atmosphere due to a lack of infrastructure.
The project is estimated at $150 million.
The emission volumes hit 200 million cubic meters of gas per year.
Compressors will be installed at the Gunashli-4 platform to pressurize gas for further transportation.
