SOCAR exports 250 million cubic metre of gas to Georgia

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) exported about 267 million cubic metre of gas to Georgia in January-February 2009.

In February, roughly 99.5 million cubic metres of gas was transported to Georgia.

The gas supplies to Georgia were launched in April 2008. A total of 788.93 million cubic metre of gas was transported to Georgia in 2008.

In November 2008, Azerbaijan and Georgia signed an agreement on the basis of which SOCAR launched its activity in the Georgian gas market for the next five years, starting in 2009. Under the memorandum, SOCAR opens a subsidiary to provide gas to consumers defined by the Georgian government (social groups).

Georgia will sell natural gas to SOCAR's subsidiary at fixed prices within five years period. Georgia will receive this gas from transit of Russian gas and Azerbaijani gas through the South Caucasus pipeline and commercial gas from the Azerbaijan's Shah Daniz field.
