SOCAR implements own social development program

Under conditions of the world financial crisis, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) continues to construct houses to improve its employees' housing conditions as part of the Social Development Program for 2007-2010, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said on March 17.

"Despite difficulties of the crisis, we are seeking to continue constructing houses to prevent delays in the field," Abdullayev said.

At present SOCAR have registered 6,000 employees to improve housing conditions, he said.

Roughly 600 houses were granted to the company's employees in 2008 and this figure should the same in 2009.

On March 17, the company put two apartment buildings into exploitation in the Garachukhur and Amirjan settlements of Baku to improve its employees' housing conditions. SOCAR President Abdullayev attended an exploitation ceremony of the buildings.

A 5-storeyed building comprising 120 flats in the Garachukhur settlement was constructed upon an order of the Neft Dashlari oil and gas production unity. Construction work began in 2006.

Another 5-storeyed building in the Amirjan settlement comprising 40 flats was constructed upon an order of Neftegazstroy trust of SOCAR.

There are 57 oil and gas fields in Azerbaijan, including 18 offshore and the remained onshore.

At present SOCAR staff numbers over 62,000 people.
