In January-April 2009, the Bakgas joint venture (gas distributor and seller in Baku) transferred 1.3 billion cubic metre of gas to the gas system of Baku.

In April, about 226 million cubic metre of gas was transferred to the gas system of Baku, compared to 348 million cubic metre in March.

The daily gas supply to the system is about 4.5 million cubic metre, compared to 8 million cubic metre in March.

The reduction in gas consumption is due to warm weather conditions.

Last year, Bakgas transferred about 2.45 billion cubic metre of gas to the gas system of Baku.

In 2008, Bakgas completely renounced the seasonal profile of gas (winter and summer) in the gas system of the city. After this the volume of gas depends on the demand of consumers. Application of seasonal regime was linked to the lack of metering in the majority of the population, resulting in irrational consumption of gas by population. About 100 percent of consumers have been provided with gas meters in Baku.

In previous years, the joint venture shifted to summer season from the mid of April and to winter season from November 15. The daily gas consumption in summer season is 4-4 million cubic metre, whicle the figure reaches 10-13 million cubic metre in winter season.
