SOCAR, plans to complete construction of a new two-unit Umid-1 platform on the sea prospective gas and condensate field with the same name in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea by late June, said a source close to work at SOCAR.

"The platform is being built uninterruptedly. The construction is expected to complete by late June," a source said.

A source said a helipad has been built on the platform. Residential units have been installed. "Working meeting will be held as a part of the construction on May 25," a source said.

The main purpose of the exploration drilling is increase in gas production.

As mentioned earlier another source in SOCAR, drilling of the first exploration well in Umid field is scheduled for July. Part of planned drilling will be performed until the end of this year. The depth of the first well is 6,500 meters, of which only four 4,000 will be drilled this year.

Umid-1 platform built on the base of unfinished Chiraq-6 platform is the largest facility within the program with a height of 71 meters. The platform will be installed 15km of Bulla Daniz field at the depth of 58 meters. A total of six gas wells are expected to be drilled from the platform.

Total assumed gas reserves in Umid offshore field is estimated at 200-300 billion cubic meters.
