Turkmenistan must be ready to short-term changes on global energy market: president

President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov as stated at the last meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers that Turkmenistan must be "fully prepared to short-term changes in the global energy market."

The president said   the prospects of development of Turkmenistan's fuel and energy complex is directly related to the diversification of export supplies of natural gas.

By late 2009, it is planned to be built pipeline to China at the level of discussion of alternative projects - Nabucco associated with Europe, and Trans-Afghan - in Pakistan and India. Every year the country produced about 75 billion cubic meters of gas by 2030, the volume is planned to increase to 250 billion cubic meters of gas.

"Despite the financial and economic crisis, the industry of all countries still in need of energy, but after its decline this need, including - in the oil and gas, will steadily increase," Berdymuhamedov said.

He emphasized at present, the first task is to accelerate development of hydrocarbon fields discovered in the country. In this regard, Vice-Premier V. Tagyevu was instructed to establish a special commission, consisting of heads and leading specialists of the State Concern "Turkmengaz", the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs and other structures.

With the status of Power, Energy, Turkmenistan will build its policy in the energy sector in line with national interests and the interests of partner countries, Berdymuhamedov said.
