SOCAR stands ready to increase capacity of pipeline to Russia

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) stands ready to extend and reconstruct the Baku-Shirvanovka gas pipeline, SOCAR high ranking official said.

"Before, BT, SOCAR and Azerigaz held inspection on the pipeline and has carefully analyzed sections which need to be replaced. There was also held commercial analyses in order to increase the carrying capacity to certain volumes," the official said.

Swap deliveries of Azerbaijani gas to Russia depends on the infrastructure of the Russian Federation, availability of free markets and possible gas deliveries by Azerbaijan.

Previously, SOCAR and Gazprom signed a memorandum of understanding and an agreement was reached to start negotiations on harmonization of conditions of sale of Azerbaijani gas deliveries to start in January 2010 to the frontier (DAF) Azerbaijan-Russia. Options and economic feasibility of operation of gas exchange will also be developed in the framework of the memorandum.

The memorandum calls for the development cooperation program for exchange of experiences, conducting courses, training seminars and visits to production facilities specialists sides to exchange information.
