Azerbaijan, Baku, June 9 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) will design and present to the World Bank Global Gas Flaring Reduction (GGFR) a draft of work until 2014 to reduce the volume of associated gas discharge into the atmosphere before the end of the year, SOCAR Ecology Department's source said.

"Huge work has been done, but we are designing the draft of work to reducing the volume of associated gas discharge into the atmosphere," the source said.

The Ecology Department and GGFR are discussing the program in Baku.

The sides are also discussing the work on projects aimed at reducing air emissions under the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development, and the methods of instrumental measurement of associated gas emitted to the atmosphere.

By 2014, the emission of associated gas, which causes greenhouse effect, is planned to eliminate, the source said.

Annual emissions of associated gas in the atmosphere, creating a greenhouse effect, on onshore fields in Azerbaijan, developed by oil refineries of Bibi Eybat and Siyazanneft of SOCAR is about three million cubic meters.

The largest amount of emissions into the atmosphere of low pressure associated gas is produced on offshore fields of Guneshli (shallow section) and Oil Rocks. The volume of gas discharged into the air from Guneshli varies between 150 and 250 million cubic meters a year, while the figure is about 150 million cubic meters on Oil Rocks. These fields are also being developed by SOCAR independently.

There are 57 oil and gas fields in Azerbaijan, out of which 18 are offshore and the rest are onshore fields. A total of 62,000 people are occupied in SOCAR.
