SOCAR studies perspective onshore units in Azerbaijan

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) will finish interpretation of results of two-dimensional geophysical study in the onshore Zardab, Shikhbagi and eastern Shikhbagi units by late 2009, a source at the SOCAR said on June 9.

"At present these units are undergoing two-dimensional geophysical study which is planned to finish in July-August, and then the data will be processed and interpreted. The whole process must end in December 2009," the source said.

This work aims to specify geological structure and forecast of oil and gas content.

The source said field work in these areas began in April and is conducted by methods of common depth point, breaking waves and gravity.

After completing interpretation, the done work done will be presented to "Azneft", which is a customer. The enterprise is a member of SOCAR.

There are 57 oil and gas fields, including 18 offshore and the rest - onshore in Azerbaijan. SOCAR staff today is more than 62,000 people.
