Novorossiysk port to apply new system of calculation of oil cargo

Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port (NCSP) will apply new system of management of calculation of oil and oil products as a part of overhaul of Shesharis oil shipment terminal.

The system allows to control the loading of oil and oil products with the most modern technology and provides a higher level of environmental and fire safety.

Monitoring into compliance with environmental and industrial safety are carried out by the Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Atomic Supervision in Russia, which has already reviewed the implementation of these requirements at the shore facilities oil NSCP.

Completion of reconstruction of Shesharis oil terminal is scheduled for 2012. The project includes an extensive renovation and modernization of existing facilities and equipment to enhance industrial, environmental and fire safety of the port.

The NCSP brings together the following stevedoring companies: Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port OJSC, Novorossiysk Grain Terminal OJSC, Novorossiysk Shipyard OJSC, Fleet NCSP PJSC, "Novoroslesexport", STI and Baltic stevedoring company.

In January-May this year, Russia's Black Sea port of Novorossiysk handled 18.5 million tons of oil against 17.6 million tons during the same period of 2008.

The port handled 5.4 million tons of oil products January-May compared to more than 4.4 million tons over the same period last year.

SOCAR also transships its oil via Novorossiysk. In January-May, SOCAR exported more than one million tons of oil through Baku-Novorossiysk compared to 568,000 tons during the same period of 2008. Over 224,000 tons of Azerbaijani oil was exported in May.
