Azerbaijan, Baku, August 1 / Trend E. Ismayilov /
SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) plans to launch three-dimensional seismic research (3D seismic) in the prospective gas condensate structure Bahar-2 in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea next week, SOCAR source close to situation said on August 1.
"Everything is ready. Operations are expected to launch next week," source said.
After launching operations on the the structure are planned to completewithin 2-3 months. "Within this period seismic research must be completed, since the weather would not allow operating on the sea," source said earlier. It is necessary to research the structure, analyse data and interpretion of results to speak about volumes of reserves and operations on this structure.
SOCAR studies prospective offshore structures, especially, Bahar-2 to increase volume sof gas production in Azerbaijan.
Reserves of Bahar-1 field have been extracted significantly. It is a unique field. Roughly 16-17 million cubic meters of natural gas were extracted from this field in 1980. It provided 30-40 percent of Azerbaijani demand for gas. SOCAR develops Bahar field independently.
SOCAR considers opportunity to establish new underground gas-holder in this field.
SOCAR deals with gas production in Azerbaijan. SOCAR produces fuel on the fields for own funds. Most of gas extracted by SOCAR meets demand for Azerbaijani domestic market. Part of gas is exported to Georgia.
Gas is also extracted on Shah Deniz field by foreign partners with the participation of SOCAR and BP technical operator. Gas is supplied to the Azerbaijani market, as well as exported to Georgia and Turkey via the South Caucasus gas pipeline. Azerbaijan also receives petroleum gas extracted by Azerbaijan International Operating Company on the block of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli fields.
