Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, August 6 / Trend , G.Hasanov /
According to the data provided by Turkmengaz State Concern, welding work was completed on the 10 kilometers stretch of 30.5 kilometers route from the Dovletabad field up to Salyr Yap on the border with Iran.
Since 1996, Turkmenistan has been supplying gas to Iran via route from the western Korpeje field to the Iranian city of Kurt-Kui, of which capacity is limited to 8 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Recently, the sides agreed to build a new pipeline from the southern fields of Turkmenistan.
In April 2009, Turkmen gas supply to Russia was stopped. Firstly it happened due to technical reason, but later because of the protracted negotiations on the revision of a long-term contract, on which Russia's Gazprom insisted.
Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary State News Service reported that in accordance with the agreements, the supply of "blue fuel" via new route to the southern neighbor should begin in December 2009.
The gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to Iran is planned to be put into operation in October. The design capacity of the new gas pipeline is 12.5 billion cubic meters of blue fuel per year.
As known, the agreement to build a gas pipeline Dovletabad-Salyr Yap was reached in July this year. As a result of Turkmen-Iranian talks in Ashgabat, the sides agreed to increase the volumes of supplied Turkmen gas to 14 billion cubic meters per year.
At the same time, the sides agreed upon the market price of natural gas, supplied from Turkmenistan to Iran, according to international formula.
National TV channel Altyn Asyr reported that Turkmenistan and Iran intends to, in the future, make it possible to increase the supply of "blue fuel" to the Iranian consumers up to 20 billion cubic meters per year, using the large resources of Dovletabat field.
