From January to July, the Bibiheybat Oil and Gas Production Unity (OGPU) of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) produced approximately 68,260 tons of oil compared to the planned volume of 64,250 tons, Head of the OGPU, Ilgar Hamzayev, said in an interview with the Respublika newspaper.
From January to July, the OGPU has produced about 8,700 cubic meters of gas, which is 36.8 percent more than the planned volume.
The OGPU put 5 wells into exploitation and produced about 1.700 tons of oil from them. The company also put 7 wells into operation, which had been inactive earlier.
At present, 5 wells are being prepared and they will be put into operation soon. Nine new wells are planned to be designed and drilled by late 2009, Hamzayev said.
Azerbaijan has 57 oil and gas fields, including 18 offshore wells. SOCAR has more than 62,000 employees.
