Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Sept. 24 / Trend H.Hasanov /

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met in the United States. They agreed that "traditional intergovernmental dialogue, which currently has a constructive and pragmatic character, very soon will enter a qualitatively new stage, meeting interests of the brotherly countries and their people."

This was stated at the meeting of the Turkish-speaking countries' heads in New York, where they attended the 64th UN General Assembly, the Kazakh national Altyn Asir TV channel reported on Sept.24.

Ankara is interested in Ashgabat's joining to the Nabucco pipeline project, which will allow Europe to gain access to the Caspian resources. Both Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan were recognized as one of the potential sources of fossil fuels for the European market.

In New York, the sides discussed status and prospects of further cooperation and favored "building the mutually beneficial cooperation, as guarantee of successful development, supported by the political will and ... economic and resource potential of the two countries."

Turkey and Turkmenistan have an active goods turnover. It made up $700 million in the sixth months of 2009, though was equal to $855,200 million in 2008. Some 536 companies, which are engaged in industry, construction, trade and transport, operate in Turkmenistan with the participation of the Turkish capital.

Taking into account the Turkmen large-scale Caspian project on creation of a national tourist zone "Avaz", the tourism was named among the most important vectors of the partnership.

Erdogan expressed the Turkish business circles' interest in expansion of their presence in the promising Turkmen market and active participation in the Turkmen projects.

Berdimuhammedov mentioned "the special nature of relations with Turkey, with which Turkmenistan is connected with geographical proximity and the economic and cultural ties rooted in ancient times."

The Turkmen leader also received at his residence in the U.S. the CEO of Turkish company Chalik Holding, Ahmet Chalik. Chalik assured that his company will continue to strictly follow all contractual obligations. In Turkmenistan, the holding is engaged in development of the electric power, textiles and implements large-scale construction projects.
