Yemen is to export liquefied natural gas abroad with its first shipment to set sail for South Korea on Nov. 7, Minister of Oil and Minerals Amir al-Aidarous said on Friday, Xinhua reported.
The first shipment, with a capacity of 149,000 cubic meters, reportedly would be transported by a Korean tanker to Korea Gas Corp., al-Aidarous said.
The cargo will set sail from the LNG plant located at Balhaf port on the southern coast of the country.
"The production process of LNG, which was launched last month, is running successfully", al-Aidarous said, adding "exporting natural gas would allow Yemen to accede to the Natural Gas Exporting Club."
Yemen LNG has reportedly said that another cargo ship with a capacity of 160 cubic meters would be carried by a Yemen LNG-owned tanker.
The second cargo ship was set to cruise to the United States, a Yemen LNG spokesman said, without giving a specific date or the name of the U.S. company.
