BTC increases oil transportation in January-February

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) transported over 5.7 million tons of the Azerbaijani oil, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) reported.

In 2009 BTC transported about 38.2 million tons of oil compared to 32.8 million tons of oil in 2008.

The total length of BТС is 1.768 kilometers including the 443 kilometer section running via Azerbaijan, the 249 kilometer section via Georgia and the 1.076 kilometer via Turkey. Construction of the pipeline began in April 2003 and it was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.

BTC Co. shareholders include BP (30.1%); AzBTC (25%); Chevron (8.90%); Statoil Hydro (8.71%); ТРАО (6.53%); Eni (5%); Total (5%); Itochu (3.40%); Inpex (2.50%); ConocoPhillips (2.50%) and Amerada Hess (2.36%).

In January-February, about 833.7 million cubic meters of gas were transported via the South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) compared to one billion cubic meters over the same period of the last year.

In 2009, about 5.2 billion cubic meters of gas was transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum compared to 4.7 billion cubic meters in 2008.

he length of the pipeline Baku - Tbilisi - Erzurum pipeline (South Caucasus Pipeline) is more than 700 kilometers. Pumping capacity is over 20 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Gas produced at gas-condensate field Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea is transported via this gas pipeline. Gas is supplied to Georgia and Turkey. Azerbaijan also buys this gas.
