Azerbaijan, Baku, May 8 / Trend, E.Ismayilov /

Capacity of JSC Azerenergy (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijani regions) will be increased by 3,000 megawatts by 2015, JSC Azerenergy said.

At present, the energy system of Azerbaijan consists of 13 power plants and six hydroelectric power plants. Their total installation capacity is 6400 megawatts. About 90 percent of the power energy generated in the country accounts for thermal power plants and the rest - for hydropower plants.

In addition, the implementation of projects on construction of new large and small hydroelectric power plants by 2015 will create conditions for saving about two million tons of continued fuel.

In particular, at present, commissioning of 220 kV substation "Salyan" is underway to increase power interchange with Iran from 200 megawatts to 700 megawatts. Also operations on construction of high-voltage electricity transmission lines are underway. The facility is planned to be commissioned in the current year.
