SOCAR prepares to open petrol stations in Azerbaijan

SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) intends to put into operation 2-3 petrol stations more under its own brand in Azerbaiajn in the nearest 2-3 months, a source in SOCAR said.

"The work on construction of new petrol stations is underway. Most of the work has been already completed at 2-3 petrol stations. They will be commissioned in a couple of months," the source said. The source did not name location of new petrol stations, which are planned to be commissioned in the nearest months.

The work on the construction of petrol stations in many parts of the country, and in particular in the direction of the road Baku-Guba is underway, the source said.

He said that SOCAR Petroleum's petrol stations are in demand among the drivers of vehicles. "The demand for products provided by the petrol stations is very high," a source said.

The first three petrol stations under SOCAR brand were opened May 7, 2010. All three petrol stations are located in Baku - on the highway leading to the Baku International Airport named after Heydar Aliyev, Zikh highway and Bibi-Heybat.

SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said that this year the joint venture SOCAR Petroleum intends to open in Azerbaijan seven petrol stations more. Investments in construction of petrol stations in Azerbaijan is 20 million manat.

It is planned to open 10 petrol stations more in Azerbaijan next year.

SOCAR Petroleum's shareholders are SOCAR (51 percent) and the U.S AP International (49 percent). SOCAR Petroleum was registered Jan. 21, 2008.
