The Black Sea Oil Terminal of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Kulevi (Georgia) transshipped  five million tons of oil cargo since the beginning of operation (May 2008), Kulevi Terminal General Director  Kerim Guliyev said in an interview posted on the official website of the terminal.

"In September, 2009 we received our first tanker with DWT over 100,000 tons. Recently we started to accept crude oil," Guliyev said. "Our right method of approach to basic direction of business strategy development and compliance with international standards during any kind of operations attracted such a considerable crude oil carrier as Tengizchevroil is."

First, the terminal's objective is to increase the turnover. "According to Contract between Black Sea Terminal LLC and Georgian Railway we have carried a whole number of reconstruction and construction works. A stock of eight lines at Samtredia station was reconstructed. Each line was added to Kvaloni and Agurkarkhana stations, and two lines will be added at Chaladidi station.

Regarding Chaladidi-Kolkheti station-to-station block, here we are building the main line. This line will be fully electrified. Also we are constructing five lines station in Partotskali. All this will make possible to accept 10mln tons per year, " he added.

"Our goal is development of infrastructure on the basis of which the turnover will increase. We try to use our possibilities with maximum for the Terminal to work to capacity, so we could stand near such companies which carry weight in this business field," Guliyev said.

Guliyev said, there are 11 departments, and Port and Railway are among them. There are over 600 employees working at the Terminal. 93% of them are citizens of Georgia and basically are representatives of local region. Regarding additional jobs, we already have hired about 40 employees recently. This is related to receiving of crude oil and increasing of turnover.

The terminal was put into operation in summer 2008. Its total capacity is 10 million tons of oil per year, including 3 million tons of oil, 3 million tons of diesel fuel, and 4 million tons of fuel oil.

The terminal can accommodate up to 168 tank cars. The tank farm's total volume is 320,000 cubic meters with the possibility of increasing to 380,000 cubic meters. The port has two berths to load petroleum products in tankers of up to 100,000 tons.

Loading productivity ranges from 1,000 to 8,000 cubic meters per hour. The railway station, which can simultaneously accommodate up to 180 carriage awaiting discharge of cargo, serves to the port. The railway trestle can simultaneously unload 168 carriages.
