SOCAR continues work on expansion of Kalmaz gas storage

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has put into operation a new well in the Kalmaz underground gas storage facility, the Complex Drilling Operations Trust reported. The trust and gas store are in the management of SOCAR.

The work on drilling another well is also completed. The company launched its development.

The country has two underground storage facilities - Garadagh and Kalmaz. SOCAR holds expansion work at both storages. Gas is pumped into underground storage facilities for use in the autumn-winter

The volume of gas reserves in the Azerbaijani underground gas storage facilities will amount to three billion cubic meters in 2010. The figure was at about two billion cubic meters in 2009 compared to 1.4 billion cubic meters in 2008.

SOCAR reported that about 507.7 millions of cubic meters of gas were pumped into Garadagh underground and 794.9 millions of cubic meters - Kalmaz in 2009.
