The next meeting of the heads of Russia and Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Dmitriy Medvedev, to be held in the city of Turkmenbashi on Oct. 21-22, is designed to give new incentives for intergovernmental dialogue, the press service of the Turkmen government said Thursday.

"Taking into account the planned major projects such as construction of the Caspian Gas Pipeline, cooperation in oil and gas industry, the bilateral cooperation has broad prospects for the future," said the statement.

The base document for the project, which reflects the interest of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Russia, was signed in Moscow in December 2007.

The sources close to the current negotiations told Trend at the same time were identified the main characteristics and the project schedule, recorded the joint commitment of the participating countries interested in increasing the capacity of major transportation system.

At the same time, the Caspian project appeared on the second plan after the spring of 2009, when Russia suspended imports of Turkmen gas via the traditional route - the Central Asia-Center through Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia.

Earlier this year, purchases have been restored, but in smaller quantities and at a reduced price. The new conditions were dictated by the reduced demand on the markets because of the global economic crisis. In September this year, Berdimuhamedov noted that the global recession has affected the rate of implementation of major joint projects.

In connection with the upcoming talks in the Turkmen city of Turkmenbashi, the press writes that it will focus on priority issues of interstate relations, "which was originally built on an equitable, constructive and long-term basis, the issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest."
