Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation decided to open its representative office in Turkmenistan, Executive Vice President Hideto Nakahara said in Ashgabat, national television channel Altyn Asir reports.
This decision was voiced at a meeting with the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov.
According to Nakahara, Japan's business circles are highly interested in cooperation with Turkmenistan as a country rich in resources and economic potential.
In turn, Berdimuhammadov stressed during the meeting that Turkmenistan is also interested in expanding business contacts with companies known for their achievements in advanced technologies.
President Berdimuhammadov paid official visit to Japan in December last year. During his visit, a framework agreement was signed with the Consortium of Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries LTD for the project of construction of a plant producing carbamide, methanol and ammonia in Tejen.
Prospects for cooperation with the Japanese company are marked in such areas as the modernization of the fuel and energy complex (FEC), the development of oil and gas transport system, processing industry, petrochemical industry and other spheres.
