Equating oil and gas prices discussed at GECF meeting

Equating prices for gas and oil at the market was discussed in a meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) held in Doha, Mehr reported citing Seed Mohammad Ali Khatebi as saying.

Natural gas prices are not stable at the market now, he clarified.

Agenda of the Doha meeting included making a decision on the first meeting of the member countries' heads, official opening the secretariat, ratifying the 2011 budget of GECF, reviewing gas market and drafting the forum's five year strategy.

The 2011 budget of GECF has been adopted with little rise over the 2010 budget, Khatebi said.

"Iran will undertake presidency in GECF in 2013, Khatebi said.

The GECF will hold its next meeting in Egypt on July 2, 2011.

The GECF's 10th ministerial meeting took place in Oran, Algeria in April 2010.

The GECF includes eleven member-countries, while three countries attend the meeting as observers.

The forum assumes 42 percent of the global gas production, 70 percent of global gas reserves, 38 percent of gas pipelines and 85 percent of LNG trade.

Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela being the eleven members of the forum.

GECF's executive committee has started its work since November 29 with the presence of the member countries' representatives while the ministerial meeting was held on December 2.
