The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) intends to enter the market of oil products retail sales in Romania during 2011, SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said.
"We have already started certain works in the Romanian oil market. The projects are ready, and perhaps we will begin to implement them already this year. It is primarily concerned with gas stations," Abdullayev said.
Abdullayev said that the company has been studying the Romanian market for some time, and knows that Romania is a major oil country having several oil refineries and appropriate infrastructure.
Negotiations are currently underway within the envisaged projects, Abdullayev said.
Earlier, a senior SOCAR official told Trend that SOCAR is preparing an oil product distribution pilot project for Romania's domestic market. This project envisages the rebranding of 16 gas stations. Within the project, it is possible to cover a number of Romanian regions, particularly those in center and northeast.
