Georgian port of Poti increases oil cargo transshipment

The Georgian International Sea port of Poti handled 1.2 million tons of oil in 2010 compared to 900,000 tons of oil over the same period of 2009, a source in the Poti port told Trend.

"The port observed an increase in the cargo transshipment. In particular, as a result of 2010, the cargo transshipment hit 1.2 million tons, whereas in 2009 this figure hit 900,000 tons," the source said.

According to him, in 2010 the Poti port handled 7.3 million tons of various cargo compared to 6.1 million tons in 2009.

In 2009, the port handled about 6.1 million tons of various cargo, including more than 3.04 million tons - general cargo and over 2.1 million tons - bulked cargo. About 904,000 tons are oil cargo.

The port reported that it handled 172,800 tons of containerized cargo in 2009. The port has 15 berths.
