Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 4 / Trend E. Ismailov /

The new production well SDA-06 is ready for operation on gas condensate field Shah Deniz in Azerbaijan's sector of the Caspian Sea, a source on the oil and gas market said.

He said that the well is under engineering supervision now. The specific terms of its commissioning are unknown.

The source said that one of the reasons for the delay by putting the well into operation is sufficient volume of gas produced at the other four wells, available on the platform and located at the field.

"There are enough volumes of gas produced in the field today," the source said.

At present, gas is produced from four wells. Daily production of gas from the platform at the Shah Deniz field lies in the area of 15-23 million cubic meters. After putting new wells into operation, it can reach 25-26 billion cubic meters per day.

The contract to develop the offshore Shah Deniz field was signed June 4, 1996. Participants to the agreement are: BP (operator) - 25.5 percent, Statoil Hydro - 25.5 percent, NICO - 10 percent, Total - 10 percent, LukAgip - 10 percent, TPAO - 9 percent, SOCAR-10 percent.

The peak production forecasted at over 8.6-9 billion cubic meters. It is planned that in the second stage of field development, gas production can be brought up to 25 billion cubic meters a year.

Reserves of the Shah Deniz field are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas.
