Work continues on the preparation of the preliminary version of a program to maintain and increase production in the shallow part of the Azerbaijani Guneshli Field, which is developed by the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).

The source said the program has been prepared by the May 28 Oil and Gas Production Department and has already been submitted to the Azneft Production Association.

"The program will be considered by the association, and then the appropriate recommendations and proposals will be made," the source said.

According to the source, the program envisages expanding platforms, building platforms and drilling wells.

The head of SOCAR, Rovnag Abdullayev, said earlier that one of the company's goals in 2011 is to construct new and repair existing platforms, pipelines and drilling new wells on the offshore fields Guneshli and Oily Rocks.

Guneshli is managed by the May 28 Oil and Gas Production Department.

The shallow part of the Guneshli deposit is being developed by SOCAR at its own expense, and the deep section in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli bloc is being developed together with a consortium of foreign companies.
