ECO, OPEC joint symposium to be held in Iran

A meeting of oil ministry representatives from Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and OPEC member countries will be held in the Iranian city of Isfahan on April 26-27, the Iranian mojnews agency reported. Azerbaijan has been an ECO member since 1992.

According to the report, the goal of the meeting is to hold discussions related to assessing global oil markets. The meeting will consider the international and regional oil market situation, and the future prospects of oil prices and other issues.

The ECO, the successor of the Organization of Regional Cooperation for Development, was established in 1985. Since 1992, the ECO's activity has significantly intensified in connection with seven countries - Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

OPEC members, which meet 35 percent of the global oil demand, are Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.

At present, Iran presides over OPEC.
