Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Oct. 5 /Trend, D.Azizov/

Uzbekneftegaz National Holding Company (NHC) will begin reconstruction of an underground gas storage facility on the Gazli field in the Bukhara region by the end of this year, a government source in Uzbekistan told Trend.

According to Company's official, the implementation of the project worth $242 million will enable to regulate seasonal irregularities in gas consumption in winter and increase gas exports from previously pumped gas storage Gazli.

In addition, reconstruction of the facility will increase the volume of gas exports in the winter to 25 billion cubic meters per year.

Currently, Uzbekneftegaz has completed a feasibility study, and will announce a series of tenders in November for the purchase of necessary equipment and logistical resources for the project.

Gazli gas field has been exploited since 1961. Initial gas reserves hit about 500 billion cubic meters. At present, gas reserves are exhausted.
