Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a resolution approving the major development of the Mary region's industrial sector, an official Turkmen source said on Monday.
The largest gas deposits, including Yoloten which ranks second in the world gas reserves, are in this region.
The document states that it will serve the successful implementation of the national programme on Turkmenistan's socio-economic development framework for 2011 to 2030. It will also cover the diversification and rapid development of this sector using modern technologically and the creation of high-quality and competitive production capacities, as well as new jobs.
According to the programme's key provisions, production is planned to be diversified, mineral fertiliser production is to be increased by 4.8 times; electrical power by 1.2 times; cotton processing by 1.2 times; non-metallic material production by 1.7 times; facing construction materials by 1.3 times and food industry products by 1.4 times.
Moreover, the document intends to strengthen the country's export potential and develop the textile industry to ensure a surplus in the domestic market and focus on the involvement of small and medium entrepreneurs in the region.
