Accident in Central Asia United Energy System causes limitations in power supply

An emergency outage occurred in 500-kV power transmission lines in the "Toktogulsk HPP - Bishkek" section at 10:20 local time, and in interstate 500-kV line "TashGRES Shymkent-500" on the border between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan at 10:25 on Sunday, JSC Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) said.

An emergency outage occurred in 500-kV power transmission lines in the "Toktogulsk HPP - Bishkek" section at 10:20 local time, and in interstate 500-kV line "TashGRES Shymkent-500" on the border between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan at 10:25 on Sunday, JSC Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) said.

As a result of the cascade-related accident the "North - South of Kazakhstan" transit was cut off.

Short-term limitations in power supply to the southern part of Unified Power System of Kazakhstan reached 912 megawatt and affected Almaty, Zhambyl, Shymkent and Kyzyl-Orda regions' consumers.

In Central Asia United Energy System power consumption limits hit 1,287 megawatt ("Uzbekenergo" 925 megawatt, "Kyrgyzenergo" 362 megawatt).

System Operator's employees synchronized activity of the South zone with Central Asia United Energy System and Unified Power System of Kazakhstan at 10:49. Power supply scheme of the Almaty power grid was restored within an hour.
