Kazakhstan will build solar panels, the Kazakh National Atomic Company Kazatomprom reported.
"The foundation stone laying ceremony for the solar panel plant took place in Astana on Saturday," Kazatomprom said.
The solar panels will be produced on the basis of Kazakh silicon.
The construction is planned to complete in Dec. 2012 and production capacity in the first quarter of 2013.
The total cost of the project will be about 34 billion tenge ($230,04).
The construction of the plant is part of a large-scale project, implemented by Kazatomprom and French consortium under French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA).
The project is aimed at developing solar energy and other renewable energy in Kazakhstan.
