Energy company Kyrgyzgaz is in talks with Uztransgaz on natural gas supplies for 2012, KyrTAG quotes JSC Kyrgyzgaz Director General Turgunbek Kulmyrzayev as saying at a press conference on Friday.

JSC Kyrgyzgaz is in talks with Uztransgaz on gas supplies to Kyrgyzstan starting from the 3rd quarter of 2012. We concluded an agreement with KazTransGas on gas supplies to the northern regions until May 2012. If the Uzbek side will set a fixed price, then we intend to buy gas from Uzbekistan, as Uztransgaz is the main gas supplier to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan," Mr Kulmyrzayev said.

He said the company purchased natural gas from Uztransgaz in the first quarter at a price of $222 per 1000 cubic metres in 2010, in the second quarter the Uzbek side increased the price up to $224, in the third, up to $278 and in the fourth, up to $305 per 1000 cubic metres.

"The Uzbek side explained the price increase by the fact that it calculates price in accordance with European standards where prices vary in each quarter. Until May 2012 we will provide the population with natural gas supplied by KazTransGas," Mr Kulmyrzayev said. He also confirmed that the Uzbek side restored gas supplies to Kyrgyzstan.

"There is no problem with supplies. The volume has been increased up to 45,000 cubic metres per hour," He added.
