The associated gas emissions volume in Azerbaijan declined from 500 million cubic meters for the last 4.5 years to 270 million cubic meters of gas per year, WB representative office head in Azerbaijan Joseph Owen said at the presentation of a short documentary film today.
"There is great progress in reducing emissions of associated gas and CO2 (carbon dioxide) in Azerbaijan during this period," he said. "In particular, during this period, the volume of CO2 emissions dropped from 900,000 to 400,000 tons per year."
The World Bank, the Azerbaijani government and SOCAR has been cooperating in reducing the gas flaring volume since 2008. This cooperation is carried out within the Global Gas Flaring Reduction partnership (GGFR).
