Procedure of creation of the Technical committee on oil and gas under the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents may complete in 2012, a source in the committee told Trend on Thursday.
He said work and talks aimed at creating technical committee are underway.
"The issue of the technical committee on oil and gas is still open, and it is difficult to talk about the exact timing. But it can be created in 2012," the source said.
Head of department of technical regulation and standartization of the State Committee Sabig Abdullayev said earlier seven subcommittees will join the technical committee. Technical committee is a forum of all parties concerned, state and non-state bodies, producers and sellers of oil and gas. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will preside in the committee.
Both the national standards AZS and regional - State Standard are effective in Azerbaijan.
The Committee will review all existing standards in the field of oil and gas, and to determine if they match the requirements of the time. In case of discrepancy it will be determined what standards should be applied in Azerbaijan in the oil and gas industry, from drilling to production of petroleum products. Then an action plan will be prepared and on the basis of it the entire foundation of standards of Azerbaijan in the field of oil and gas will be updated during a few years.
