Azerbaijan increases gas export via South Caucasus gas pipeline

Some 3.1 million tons of oil was transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline in Jan, 2012, which is the same as in Jan, 2011, the State Statistics Committee told Trend on Thursday.

"About 77 per cent of oil volume transported via the country's oil-trunk pipelines fell to the BTC oil pipeline in Jan, 2012, the Committee said.

The BТС's total length is 1.768 kilometers including a 443-kilometer section running via Azerbaijan, a 249-kilometer section traversing Georgia and a 1.076-kilometer section passing through Turkey. The pipeline's construction began in April 2003. First oil was marked May 18, 2005.

BTC Co. shareholders include: BP (30.1 percent); AzBTC (25 percent); Chevron (8.90 percent); Statoil Hydro (8.71 percent); ТРАО (6.53 percent); Eni (5 percent); Total (5 percent); Itochu (3.40 percent); Inpex (2.50 percent); ConocoPhillips (2.50 percent) and Amerada Hess (2.36 percent).

Some 434.7 million cubic meters of gas was transported via the South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum) in Jan, 2012 against 336.5 million cubic meters in Jan, 2011.

The length of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline (South Caucasus Pipeline) is more than 700 kilometers. Power flow is more than 20 billion cubic meters of gas a year. Gas produced at gas-condensate field Shah Deniz in Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea is transported through this pipeline. Gas is supplied to Georgia and Turkey. Azerbaijan also buys gas.
