SOCAR increases gas program subscribers in Georgia

The number of new SOCAR gasification customers in Georgia is over 130,000, a SOCAR Energy Georgia source told Trend on Monday.

Total number of new subscribers is projected to reach 200,000 in the frame of gasification program implemented by SOCAR in Georgia.

"The work under the program is implemented with vigor, and currently the number of subscribers covered by the program is more than 130 000" the source said. More than 125 thousand subscribers were provided with gas at the end of 2011 in the frame of the program.

As the source said previously investment in the gasification program amounts to $106 million. It is planned to spend another $80 million for implementation of the program, and reconstruction work.

Earlier, the contract signed between SOCAR and the government of Georgia for a three-year program of gasification of the country, has been extended for another year.

Under a contract signed with the Government of Georgia, the company SOCAR Georgia Gas (a subsidiary company SOCAR Energy Georgia) has to gasified at least 150 000 new (potential) customers and invest at least $ 40 million in the gasification process in the country.

However, it turned out that investment significantly exceed this amount.

SOCAR and the Georgian government signed an agreement at the end of December 2008 on the transfer of 30 gas distribution farms and distribution networks control covering different regions of Georgia.
