The Besiktas (Turkey) Shipyard launched the sixth tanker under the RST22M Bakhtiar Vahabzade, project with deadweight of 7100 tons, intended for a group of Palmali companies, the company said on Friday.

The length of the vessel is 139.95 metres, breadth - 16.83 m and hull height - six metres.
The Armada type vessel is named after the national poet of Azerbaijan Bakhtiyar Vahabzade.

The launching ceremony was attended by first vice-president of the Palmali group of companies Marif Mansimov and other senior representatives of the shipbuilding company and the Besiktas Group, the widow of prominent Azerbaijani poet B.Vahabzade Dilara Vahabzade, his son, Azer Vahabzade and a number of local and foreign visitors.

In May Palmali increased the fourth series of 'Armada' tankers from 10 to 15 vessels. These are being built at the Besiktas Shipyard and will be commissioned in late 2013.

Some 15 tankers have been operating successfully in mixed river, sea shipments of oil, black oil, diesel fuel and other petroleum products and vegetable oils and for carriages in the Caspian, Black, Mediterranean, Baltic and North Seas, including sea passages around Europe and to the Irish Sea in winter.

A distinctive feature of RST22M, RST22 and 005RST01 projects' ships is the use of a full-propeller-rudder as a single means of movement and management, the use of submersible pumps and complete lack of recruitment in cargo tanks and a developed trunk. Vessels relate to the tankers, 'Volga-Don max'.

Palmali is involved in cargo deliveries in the Mediterranean, Caspian and the Black Sea Basin. The company is a general carrier for the oil southward companies such as SOCAR (Azerbaijan) and LUKOIL (Russia) and maintains long term contracts for transport of TNK-BP oil products.
