Turkmenneft State Concern is to make a significant increase in oil production conditional on the Caspian oil and gas region, Turkmen ministry of oil and gas industry and mineral resources said on Wednesday.
Most oil fields located here have been mastered for a long time, but the Turkmen oil companies are working to use previously inaccessible deep-seated deposits of oil.
In addition, Turkmenneft has embarked on plans to develop the fields in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, whose resources are estimated at 12 billion tons of oil and 6.5 trillion cubic meters of gas. Foreign investors from Malaysia, UAE, Canada, Germany and Russia are now working here on a production sharing terms.
However, the national concern is taking the first steps towards the development of offshore hydrocarbon reserves, the material said.
Turkmenneft began a phased solution of this strategic goal, starting with the development of the aquatic portion of the Northern Goturdepe field, partially located on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
The article says that the development of the site of the deposit was carried out previously in the 1990s, but due to the intense increase in the level of the Caspian Sea and flooding of an area adjacent to the bay, work in this direction has been suspended.
The present level of technological equipment allowed access to the underground reserves to continue the exploration of mineral resources and the discovery of new deposits.
As a result of a successful recovery of an offshore well, a new layer of oil at a depth exceeding 4000 meters has been discovered. A strong inflow rate of more than 250 tons of oil per day was received here. This is several times higher than the average figures for the exploited deposits.
The success is due to the use of modern drilling equipment and of new highly efficient drilling technology.
Work is underway to drill at least one more deep exploratory well at a depth of 5000 metres. This will help to reveal the full capacity of highly promising deposits and clarify the saturation of oil reservoirs and evaluate hydrocarbon deposits.
