SOCAR to increase oil refining depth at its oil refineries

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) intends to increase the depth of oil refining at its oil refineries up to 95 percent in 2014, SOCAR Vice President for refining, David Mammadov told journalists on Wednesday.

He said by this time process of bringing the gasification level in Azerbaijan up to 90 percent will be completed, which will significantly reduce fuel oil consumption in the country, and, accordingly, will allow to increase refining depth. Today, fuel oil is also used as backup fuel in power plants.

At present, oil refining depth of is more than 92 percent. The maximum figure that SOCAR achieved at its oil refineries hit 93.5 percent.

Oil products in Azerbaijan are produced on the basis of two oil refineries in Baku with total capacity of 20 million tons a year. Both oil refineries are included in the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan, which annually refines approximately 7 million tons of oil produced on onshore and offshore fields at its own expense.
