Uranium mining volume at Kazakh company’s enterprises up as of second quarter of 2012

As of the second quarter of 2012, the volume of the uranium extraction at the Kazatomprom national atomic company was 5040 tons, or nine per cent more than in the first quarter of 2012.

Kazatomprom extracted 2896 tons of uranium including shares in subsidiaries and affiliates as of the second quarter of 2012 or nine per cent more than for the first three months of 2012.

Total production figures for the Ulbin metallurgical plant comply with the planned ones. The production of beryllium products decreased by 23 per cent whilst tantalum products increased 2.2 times compared to the first quarter of this year.

The Mangistau Atomic Power Plant-Kazatomprom generated 1.015.8 billion kWh of electricity and 575,000 Gcal of thermal energy for consumers in the Aktau and Mangistau regions for the second quarter of 2012. These indices are fully consistent with the production plans of the company.

According to Kazatomprom's development programme, the operations on the strategic directions of the company's activity in the field of conversion, enrichment and nuclear fuel production continued in the second quarter.

The Atomic Company KAZATOMPROM is the national operator, of the Republic of Kazakhstan, for the import and export of uranium, rare metals and nuclear fuel for power plants, special equipment and dual-purpose materials. At present over 24,000 workers are employed by the company which is one of the world's leading uranium mining companies.
