Azerbaijan will produce 18 billion kilowatt- hours of electricity in 2012 according to the forecasts, Industry and Energy Ministry Apparatus head Rasim Mammadov told journalists on Thursday.
In 2011, Azerbaijan produced more than 20 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, which is 8.4 per cent more than in 2010.
Mammadov said that the decline in electricity production is due to on-going reforms in recent years and changes in power engineering.
"In particular, the decline in production volume and stabilisation is associated with work on the modernisation of old power generating facilities, construction of new ones and replacement of power lines, which causes a decline in losses and saves energy," Mamemadov said.
