A foreign subsidiary of KazMunaiGas, the Kazakh state oil company Rompetrol is planning to launch 700 gas stations in Ukraine within the next five years, the senior vice president of Rompetrol Timur Azimov reported to Trend on Wednesday.

"We have already entered the Ukrainian market where the Rompetrol-Ukraine company was established which distributes fuel to the domestic market. We already have two gas stations," Azimov noted.

He recalled that a memorandum between Rompetrol and Naftogaz of Ukraine had been signed on the establishment of a joint enterprise to construct gas stations in the Ukranian market.

"Two working groups are developing the realisation of the planned agreements. The feasibility on the development of the Ukrainian market has already been prepared. The launch of joint company is expected in spring next year," he stated.

In Azimov's words, Rompetrol is planning to launch around 700 gas stations in Ukraine within the next five years.

"We have the potential to enter the market, as Ukrainian refineries cover only 30 per cent of the demand. Our supply in this country amounts to 350,000 light oil products. We are considering several versions of brand names: Rompetrol - Naftogaz or KazMunaiGas," Timur Azimov added.

The Rompetrol Group is a 100 per cent subsidiary of KazMunaiGas. Rompetrol is a Romanian major oil and gas holding. It consists of three plants, as well as over a thousand gas stations in Romania, France, Spain, Moldova, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Georgia.

KazMunaiGas is Kazakhstan's national operator for exploration, production, processing and transportation. A 100 per cent stake in KazMunaiGas is held by the Kazakh National Welfare Fund, Samruk-Kazyna.
