If Damascus calls on Turkey to resume electricity supplies, Ankara can go for it, TRT Haber channel quoted the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz as saying on Wednesday.

According to the minister, the export of electricity can be resumed only through the private sector.

Turkey supplies 232.2 million kilowatt / hours of electricity monthly to Syria. These volumes ensure about 20 per cent of Syria's electricity needs.

Relations between Turkey and Syria worsened after the incident at the border on October 3, when artillery shells were directed from the neighbouring territory towards the Turkish area of Akchakale. Five people were killed and 11 injured. In response to the incident the Turkish Parliament provided the government with a one year mandate for cross-border military operations on October 4, as well as towards Syria.
