Turkish state-owned pipeline company Botas is talks with the Russian "Gazprom" to increase gas supplies to Turkey via the western route, the Sabah online newspaper reported.

Botas intends to import additional one billion cubic meters of gas per year. It is reported that the Russian company has agreed to supply gas, but the parties have not reached a final agreement on this issue yet.

Earlier Botas refused to extend expiring 25-year contract with Russia because of price disagreements. In late November, "Gazprom" has signed a long term agreement to supply gas to private companies of Turkey.

According to the Turkish state pipeline company Botas, in 2011, Turkey imported 39.7 billion cubic meters of gas. Russia ranks first among exporters of gas to Turkey. The country is followed by Iran and Azerbaijan.
