Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) plans to a purchase seismic vessel for exploration of oil and gas fields, the Zaman newspaper said on Thursday.
According to the newspaper, the corporation has already received offers for the purchase of a vessel and is currently considering the most lucrative option. The price is estimated at $100-150 million.
In addition, the Mineral Research and Exploration General Directorate at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources announced its intention to acquire a seismic vessel for exploration of mineral resources.
Turkey actively searches oil and gas fields to reduce dependence on foreign supplies. Great hope rested on the recent exploration operations in the Sinop area, but the results proved negative.
After Nicosia (Greek Cyprus) began working to develop the shelf near the shores of the island divided into Greek and Turkish sections, Turkey together with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus began exploring oil and gas in the special economic zone of Northern Cyprus.
Moreover, the country conducts oil exploration in area of the Black Sea and the Mediterranean.
