Kazakhstan launches photovoltaic modules plant

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev launched the photovoltaic modules plant Astana Solar on Tuesday, the presidential press-service reported.

"The green economy is the future. The enterprises using the clean energy will be the most advanced. Solar panels and wind power using can be important for the development of our country. The global development depends on innovations", Nazarbayev said at the plant opening ceremony.

Astana Solar is the subsidiary of Kazakh Atomic company Kazatomprom. The plant is equipped with the automated equipment of the latest generation which meets the highest safety and environmental standards. The design capacity of the photovoltaic plates will reach 50 MW with an expansion to 100 MW.

The solar panels plant in Astana is aimed at developing solar energy and other renewable energy in Kazakhstan. The total cost of the project hit 34 billion tenge ($230.04 million). The solar panels will be produced on the basis of Kazakh silicon.
