By 2025 Azerbaijan's gas export potential will reach 40 billion cubic meters, head of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) Rovnag Abdullayev said on Sunday at the event on results of the year.

"By 2020, the figure will be 25 billion cubic meters," Abdullayev said.
This statement is confirmed by discovery of new fields, such as Umid and Absheron.
Gas and condensate from Umid field is already being supplied to the overall network, and exploitation of Absheron field is likely to begin in 2020.

In 2020, Azerbaijan expects to increase gas production to 54 billion cubic meters. In 2012, gas production in the country hit 27.9 billion cubic meters, and last year, the country produced 25.7 billion cubic meters of gas.

Azerbaijan supplies gas to Russia, Iran, Turkey and Georgia.

Necessary infrastructure was created for transportation of Azerbaijani oil and gas in different directions. Among major projects implemented in this area are Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and South Caucasus gas pipeline.

Azerbaijan actively supports the project of the Southern Gas Corridor designed to transport gas to Europe via alternative routes through Azerbaijan from the Caspian region and Central Asia; that will ensure energy security of our country and contribute to the energy security of Europe.

Gas to be produced within the second stage of development of Azerbaijani gas condensate field Shah Deniz is considered as the main source of supply for projects within Southern Gas Corridor.

Today, the consortium developing the Shah Deniz field is considering two options of gas supplies to European markets - Nabucco West gas pipeline and TAP. The final decision on the choice of the route will be made in 2013.
