The European Union (EU) is ready to assist Azerbaijan in implementing measures for environmental protection and promotion, as this issue is of importance to bilateral relations, the head of the operations department of the EU Delegation in Azerbaijan Federico Berna said at the seminar "Covenant of Mayors - East: National Day in Azerbaijan".
As Berna noted, it is important that Azerbaijan, a fast growing and energy-rich country, focuses on environmental and climate change issues.
According to Berna, the topic of the seminar is very important to both the EU and Azerbaijan. The European Union is not only an organization that initiates negotiations on climate change, but also prepares new agreements in this regard.
The EU is committed to its ambitious goals for the development of alternative energy and energy efficiency, Berna said.
According to him, the Covenant of Mayors is an EU initiative started in 2008. It was very successful and unique in the fight against the effects of climate change.
The main topics of the seminar are the energy policy of Azerbaijan, improving energy efficiency in Azerbaijan, global climate change and adaptation to local conditions.
