In 2012, the Kulevi oil terminal of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Georgia transshipped more than 2.6 million tons of oil cargo compared to 3.34 million tons in 2011, a source at the terminal told Trend on Wednesday.

As the source noted, the operation continues to attract additional cargo volumes, particularly oil from Central Asia (Kazakhstan).

"A forward-looking indicator for 2013 is four million tons, for which it is necessary to attract additional cargo, work in this direction is currently underway," the source said.

In 2010, the Kulevi terminal transshipped 3.6 million tons of oil, or 56 percent more than in 2009.

Kulevi terminal was put into operation in the summer of 2008. Its total capacity is 10 million tons of oil per year, including 3 million tons of oil, 3 million tons of diesel fuel, and 4 million tons of fuel oil. The terminal can accommodate up to 168 tank cars. The tank farm's total volume is 320,000 cubic meters with the possibility of increasing to 380,000 cubic meters.

Loading productivity ranges from 1,000 to 8,000 cubic meters per hour. The railway station, which can simultaneously accommodate up to 180 carriages awaiting discharge of cargo, serves the port. The railway trestle can simultaneously unload 168 carriages.
